Attack on Titan Season 3...Thus Far

Attack on Titan Season 3...Thus Far

Attack on Titan season 2 left us with more questions than answers and utter frustration, but the build-up was well worth the wait. Wit Studio and Production I.G did NOT come to fucking play with us for season 3. We were not prepared for the lightening speed revelations the show threw at us. Though the season is about half way done, let’s discuss what we’ve learned thus far.

How Titans get their powers:

Though we still aren’t certain where Titans originate, we have a better understanding as to how the abnormal titans get their powers: they consume other abnormal titans. Yes, they EAT said titans. Follow me, people who have the ability to transform into Titan form from human form have the ability to absorb the power of another by eating another Titan that too can turn into human.

Historia and Eren’s true value:

We learn that the Reiss family is the true heir to the throne. They are also a family of titans with superior abilities to alter, erase, and unlock repressed or forgotten memories and are the gatekeepers of humanity’s history. Eren’s dad (Grista) was also a Titan, the Attack Titan. He stole the Reiss’ power by consuming Frieda (the Founding Titan), Historia’s half-sister, then injected Eren with a serum to turn him into a Titan. After being injected with the serum and turning into a Titan, Eren eats Grista, absorbing the Reiss’ Titan power. Oh, and Grista ate/killed the rest of the Reiss family for good measure. Rod Reiss was able to escape, making him to only pure blood Reiss alive. Now Rod wants Historia to transform into a Titan and eat Eren to regain the power his father stole. Bitch, my head is still spinning from this new info but I’m certain I’m following what’s going on.

The Ackerman clan:

This season we were introduced to Kenny. Kenny raised Levi and molded him into the badass we know today. After learning Mikasa and Kenny share the same last name, there is a flashback scene between Kenny and his grandfather. The Ackerman’s were warriors close to the crown but were wiped out as they didn’t agree with the First King’s ideology so posed a threat to it. The survivors retreated to the mountains and southern edge of Wall Maria. Still in the flashback, Kenny tells his grandfather he found his sister at a brothel pregnant by one of her clients and after her death, he took the child in. Right after Kenny concludes his story, the next scene jumps to Levi. This leads us to believe that Levi is unknowingly Kenny’s nephew and an Ackerman himself. It’s clear Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny are kin but how? My guess is, Kenny is uncle to both Mikasa and Levi which makes Mikasa and Levi cousins. Based on Mikasa and Levi’s fighting skills, I don’t know why I didn’t make this connection before. Shame on me.

OH, and that fight scene between Kenny and Levi is EVERYTHING! If you haven’t watched it at least four times, can you really call yourself an Attack on Titan fan?

Sunday can’t come quick enough!

You can watch the new episodes of Attack on Titan on Funimation, Crunchyroll and Hulu. I suggest you get off here and watch!
