Breathe, Stretch, Shake, Let It Go
From time to time, I find myself plagued with the woes and worries of life whether it’s my next career move, love life, or whether I should cook or just eat popcorn for dinner. The thing that I’ve found that works to mellow me out is meditation/prayer. I bought a yoga mat last spring thinking I was really going to do the whole north-sider thing and join a class but alas t’wasn’t written in the stars for me. I simply haven't found the time to really commit to a class. As an alternative, I make time out after work each day, roll out my trusty mat and calm myself.
The key is freeing your mind and concentrate on breathing-inhaling the good energy, exhaling the bad. If I had an especially rough day, I turn on some worship music to get me on the right mind of meditating and spending time with God. If you're not into that, play whatever music soothes you, close your eyes and breathe and let all your troubles melt away. Once my mind is totally clear and in a calm state, I begin to transition into some beginner yoga poses. There are a million and one videos on YouTube, Roku, and other media outlets but there’s one I’ve used on Roku called Yoga by fawesome.tv. My favorite video is called 30 min De-Stressing Refreshing Yoga Workout for Beginners. I’m not fond of the narrator’s voice but this video is great for beginners. Soothing background music plays as the narrator gives instruction for the different yoga positions and stretches. After you go through the workout, I promise you will feel more clear, centered and relaxed. For my creatives, try this before you write, draw, whatever-I guarantee you’ll be more focused.
